Library Rules

OBJECTIVES OF THE LIBRARY The main objective of the library is to provide documents, information and environment that can be helpful in imparting education, promoting research and development thereby leading to improved patient care.

GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Entry to the library premises is allowed to persons carrying Identity Cards of MAMC or associated institutions
  • Entry to the library Reading Rooms is allowed to persons carrying Identity Cards of MAMC or associated institutions
  • Entry to the Main Library (beyond Issue Counter) is allowed to persons carrying Identity Cards of MAMC or associated institutions till the exclusive MAMC Library I. Cards are issued to all the members of MAMC Central Library. Thereafter entry to the Main Library (beyond Issue Counter) will be allowed only to persons carrying the exclusive MAMC Library I. Cards
  • Library has an open access system.
  • All the shelves are properly cited with subject citations
  • Author and classified catalogue is available at the entrance, which may be referred in case of difficulty.
  • Material for reading is to be carried by the members themselves. Help of the library staff can be asked to take out out-of-reach volumes            
  • The reading material is not to be kept back in shelves after use. It is to be left on the reading table for the library staff to stack properly.
  • The issued books/journals once can not be taken INSIDE the library beyond Issue-Counter
  • All the library transactions are stopped 15 minutes before the schedule closing time of the library.
  • The administration reserves the right to ask any user who is not complying with library rules &/or not carrying the library/ MAMC I.Card in the library premises to leave the library or even cancel the membership.
  • ICards can be checked by library staff or their appointees who are carrying their ID themselves
  • Reading material already borrowed by some user can be “Reserved” by filling out a “Reservation Slip” and depositing at the issue counter. The member who reserves the material will be informed as soon as the material is returned. The person who reserves it will have to pick it up within two working days from the time she/he is informed.
  • The reminders for the overdue books are sent or displayed on the library notice board, but it is not obligatory on the part of the library authorities to do so. Members are advised to be vigilant themselves to avoid the overdue

* Para-medical staff = Lab technicians, Pharmacists, Dietitians, Radiographers etc.
  1. No ex-faculty member or ex-student will be issued membership card without the approval of the Library Advisory Committee.
  2. Membership of persons working in MAMC & associated hospitals is restricted to the period till they are on the payrolls of the MAM College & Associated hospitals. They shall have to obtain a ‘Clearance Certificate’ from the Library before leaving the institution after surrendering cards/membership/ID Card issued to them. ‘Clearance Certificate’ will be issued on the government working days only.
  3. Other category of staff of the institution complex can use library literature within the library only
  4. Outsiders: Though outsiders are not allowed, but in some special cases access can be permitted by Dean / Library Officer /Library In-charge. This permission HAS TO BE in writing BORROWING FACILITIES The borrowing items and rules regarding these are as follows:

  • Thesis can be issued to a reader, against a Borrower’s ticket, ONLY on the recommendation of the guide/co-guide/departmental head IN WRITING.
  • THE RECOMMENDING AUTHORITY WILL GIVE AN UNDERTAKING REGARDING PREVENTION OF MISUSE AND DAMAGE TO THE THESIS
  1. One Borrower’s ticket is needed for any one item
  2. The renewal of items is permissible only when the item is brought back to the library, at the discretion of the issuing staff, based on “Reservation” for the item from other members.
  3. If necessary, the library can call back items issued to members at any time

ACCESS TO COMPUTER & MULTI-MEDIA FACILITIES:
  • Internet use, online journal access, printout & scanning are available to the members only
PHOTOCOPYING
  • Photocopying facility is available at a nominal cost
  • Photocopy of thesis or its any part, is NOT ALLOWED
DEPARTMENTAL LIBRARIES
  • Every department can borrow few books for ready reference. Only those books, which have more than one copy, can be issued to the department against the signature of the departmental head. If single copy, will be kept in reference section only.
  • All the departmental books would be available in the department for ready reference.
  • A proper record will have to be kept by the department for these books and department will be responsible for them.
SC/ST BOOK BANK
The library issues the books of SC/ST Book Bank to the SC/ST students only. This service is without any charges. The student is required to produce the SC/ST certificate for availing of this facility.       

INTER LIBRARY LOAN

Library will provide the services of inter-library loan. The book and journals, which are not available in our library, can be borrowed from the other libraries of Delhi provided the demand comes through the Head/Faculty staff of the department.

RIGHTS OF MEMBERS
A library member can
  • Consult reference books within the library
  • Use reading room to study (personal books allowed)
  • Borrow one book/journal on each card.
  • Borrow one CD on each card for one day
  • Use internet facility (for academic purpose)
  • Take print outs of selected material at a nominal cost
  • Scan selected material at a nominal cost
  • Use photocopying facility
Permanent faculty members can get up to 4 books under the Faculty Scheme for long term issue DUTIES OF MEMBERS
  1. Always carry your MAMC/Library I Card when coming to the library
  2. Do not damage any material in the library
  3. Do not tear, fold or underline pages of books, journals or magazines
  4. Inform Library-In-charge if anyone is found involved in any suspicious activity in the library premises
  5. Maintain silence in the library premises
  6. Return documents on time
  7. Do not dislocate documents from its position on the shelves, if not required for consultation
  8. Be polite and gentle in your demeanor
  9. Borrowers have to observe the physical condition of the books/journals before borrowing and return them in the same condition. Any damage at the time of issue should be informed to the issuing staff, otherwise they will be held responsible for any damage noticed at the time of returning
  10. Keep your library, including the lawns outside, clean. Drop all the litter in the litter bins provided inside the reading rooms and around the library lawns
  11. Request others to do the same
PANELTIES
  • OVERDUES:
  • Books & Bound Journals
    • For first week Rs.1/-
    • For second week Rs.2/-
    • After 2 weeks Rs.1/- per day.
  • Current/Unbound journals
    • Rs.1/- per day after the due date
  • LOST BOOKS/BOUND JOURNALS/CURRENT JOURNALS:
    • If a book is lost, following options are available:
      • Replace with same edition;
      • Replace with latest edition; or
      • Pay the cost of latest edition
    • If a journal is lost, following options are available:
      • Loose journals-2 time cost of journals at present + PDF Version
      • Bound Journals- cost of journals at present + PDF Version
  • DAMAGE BOOKS/BOUND JOURNALS/CURRENT JOURNALS:  
    Members are liable to replace the damaged document if there is:
    • Tearing of pages
    • Tearing of pages bindings
    • Dog-earing
    • Underlining
    • Any other considered liable by the library staff
The accounts department of the college will accept the fine
  • Lost Borrower’s ticket: The loss of borrower’s ticket has to be reported in writing to the library immediately. The duplicate ticket will be issued within six weeks of the report, after payment of Rs.100/- for each ticket. The member will be responsible for any loss, which the library may suffer due to misuse of his/her ticket. The liability of member shall continue till he/she surrenders his/her cards or reports the loss of his/her cards to the library.
  • Library ticket of habitual defaulters can be detained for a period of 6 months and entry to library can be banned during this period.
  The rules of Internet usage
  • Internet will be available for use from Monday to Saturday from 10.00 A.M. to 7.30 P.M., and 11.00 AM to 4.00 PM on Sundays
  • Users are allowed to use this facility only for academic  & educational purpose & not for personal purposes
  • Password will be available only with the library staff assigned for the duty
  • User will be allowed entry with valid Library card only
  • Depending upon the rush, time constraints may be applied by the library staff on duty
  • All user are required to make LEGIBLE entry in the register kept for this purpose
  • User is NOT ALLOWED to make any change in the setting of PC, adding any executable programs, deleting files etc.
  • User should not remove/damage any hardware, wire etc. or interchange keyboard, mouse etc.
  • Downloading of software other than required for academic purpose is not allowed
