The Library of the university was established
in 1964 and it is one of the first department started in the
University. It is regarded as one of the best library in the
Malwa region of MP. Apart from the Central library the university
has strong departmental libraries also. The library moved
into the present premises in 1980, built out of grants provided
by University Grants Commission (UGC) . For the current year
about Rs. 15.60 Lakes were sanctioned for developing the books
and periodical collection to meet the needs of the members.
The primary mission of the library is to support the educational
and research programmes of the university by providing physical
and intellectual access to information, consistent with the
present and the anticipated educational and research functions
of the university. In accordance with the objectives of the
university, the library aims to develop a comprehensive collection
of documents useful for the faculty and the research community
. The secondary mission is, to serve as a resource center
for the scholars and scientific community of the Malwa region.
The collection of the library which includes books, journals,
reports, theses is regarded one of the richest collections
in the region.. This rich and valuable collection built over
four decades has some of the rare reference materials and
several important journals. The annual budget of the library
is over Rs. 15.60 lakhs . The library currently receives over
200 periodical titles
The library offers services such as Reference Services, Current
Awareness Service, Inter Library Loan and Photo Copy Service,
etc.
The library has been using the SOUL an Integrated Library
Management software package with all the modules for the library
housekeeping operations. The library Online Catalogue database
has more than 30 thousand records of books, which is under
continuous updation. Using SOUL OPAC, users can search the
Library Online Catalogue by Author, Title, Subject, and keywords
in the library. The same library catalog is available for
the members on intranet in the campus.
